Die Diplomarbeit über Zdarsky von Franz Böck aus St. Pölten hat Erwin Mehl mit großem Interesse durchgelesen. Besonders gefreut hat sich Mehl über die Abschnitte, in denen auf die Blamagen von Paulcke hingewiesen wird. Mit Paulcke hat Mehl auch im Herbst 1936 einen Briefwechsel, in dem sich Paulcke mit "merkwürdiger Verbissenheit gegen Zdarsky wendet", so Mehl.
